Family Portrait Photographer Manchester
Since having my own children, taking photographs of other peoples’ children and families has been one of my favourite types of photography. I live out in the Peak District, near Manchester and the surrounding forests and craggy hills provide the perfect backdrop for me to take natural and fun family photographs for every client to keep and cherish forever.

One of my favourite parts of being a family photographer is that I
see my clients grow and change throughout the years. I have one
particular family who live in America that keep coming back to me
for their family portrait session year after year.
Our relationship started around 9 years ago when I took a couples’
engagement photographs at Manchester United’s ground. He was a
massive United football fan and was so excited for them to
celebrate their love for one another at the stadium where his
beloved football team played.
Stephanie is American and they both moved back to the States to
get married and begin their life growing a family. We stayed in
touch and then a few years later Stephanie called me to say they
were coming back to the Uk for a summer holiday and would love to
have some a family portrait taken by a photographer they already
knew and trusted.
And so began our relationship of meeting every couple of years to
have their family portrait taken by me. We usually meet early
morning at Bramhall Park in Stockport which is one of my favourite
places to take family portraits near Stockport and Manchester.
There are so many places to get the kids running about and having
a good time.
For me photographing family portraits on location, especially
somewhere that involves nature is so much better than being in a
studio. Children are not designed to sit still and having them be
wild and free and run outside in the woods or do somersaults in an
open field means you are getting to get the most natural photos of
your children possible.
All kids love being outside, running, jumping and climbing and my
favourite way to photograph them is to let them be kids and do
exactly what they want to do. I spent a long part of my career
photographing children in studios and have come to the realisation
that letting them be wild is the best way to get the best
photographs of them.
I live right next to Lyme Park, this is my other favourite
location for photographing families. There are fields of flowers,
forests, hills, a lake and water. Everything you could possible
need to ensure you get the family portraits that capture your
children and your family’s personality. The best thing about
photographing families on location in parks and outside is that
you can also bring your furry friends.
I think bringing pets to your family portrait session is such a
great idea. They are essentially a part of your family and deserve
to be able to join in on the fun with you all. I would also always
say just wear what you are comfortable in. Don’t worry too much
about the weather – that’s one thing we can’t control.
What we can control is our mood and having fun is the number one
priority on a family photo shoot. So whether you have a new born
baby or grumpy teenagers we can bring everyone together near
Manchester or Stockport and make sure you have some wonderful
photos of your family that you can keep and cherish forever.
