I love make up and I love shooting beauty photography, especially when I get to work with one of my favourite make up artists and long term friend, Nancy Spencer. She is the founder of Make Up Manchester and we regularly work together to help her students create fantastic portfolios to begin their make up careers. After shooting a lot of beauty over the years and trying lots of different lighting techniques I’ve now found one that I like the most and it’s so simple. I mainly shoot with 105mm lens and use a continuous ring flash. It really does give such a nice effect on the skin and I find it easier to control the exposure while using a continuous light. Nancy teaches her students various looks ranging from bridal to red carpet glamour and we always have a great time creating the finished result for her students. The fantastic models she uses come from Maverick Models. They are always really professional, great at their job and a real pleasure to work with. Days like these where we get to have fun and shoot beautiful faces with fantastic make up really make me realise how much I love my job and that sometimes going to work just feels like hanging out with your best mates and not working at all!!
