After an amazing few months off with my own wedding, honeymoon and my beautiful daughter I decided to start 2015 with a bit of a creative injection and some new ideas and techniques. I picked a Brett Harkness Speedlight for wedding photography course as I have never really got on with my speedlight – preferring to use natural light at weddings or my Bowens Gemini lights for fashion and studio work.
After a morning in the classroom scribbling down as much information as I possibly could we spent the afternoon with a couple of models at Chadderton Town Hall putting into practise what we had learnt during the first half of the day. Not the most glamorous of venues but with some creative angles and the power of flash Brett showed us how to create some really beautiful images. There was no reinventing the wheel here (apart from opening my eyes as to potential places to shoot – eg a smoking shelter, see photo 9) but I found the day extremely valuable and it has given me some fresh ideas and new techniques to bring to my weddings in 2015. I found Brett particularly informative and happy to share information and techniques with us and am very much looking forward to getting creative in 2015!
